ZELDA NOTES for Ocarina of Time Remake: Every Feature Explained

What is ZELDA NOTES?

ZELDA NOTES is a section of the Nintendo Switch App for iOS and Android. It first launched in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo announced Ocarina of Time support in the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, and it starts with the remake’s launch.

It is free and does not need Nintendo Switch Online. You only need a compatible phone or tablet and the same Nintendo Account you play on. Nintendo says the Ocarina of Time version has several sections; these four are the ones it has explained so far.

What does Today’s Record show?

Today’s Record lists what you did each day in the order you did it. It also keeps running totals. The Direct footage showed:

• time played
• enemies defeated
• Rupees earned and items used
• hearts lost and game overs
• distance travelled, grass cut and times jumped

It works like a play diary. It is handy if you play in short sessions and want to see where you left off.

How do Gossip Quests work?

A Gossip Quest shows you a picture of a place in Hyrule. Find that spot in the game to earn points. Some pictures show famous landmarks, others show small details such as a rock formation. A hint button helps if you get stuck.

The points unlock new music scores for Play Ocarina. Be aware that the pictures can show areas you have not reached yet.

What can you do with Play Ocarina?

Play Ocarina turns your phone’s touchscreen into a virtual ocarina. You can:

• play freely
• follow a guide that shows which note to play and for how long
• let a song play automatically
• write your own scores and share them with a QR code

Want to practise on a computer or without the app? Our free ocarina simulator plays all 12 songs from the game, and the ocarina songs guide lists every note. In the remake itself you can also hum a song into the Switch 2 microphone.

How does the Ocarina of Time Quiz work?

The quiz has over 2,000 questions about the game. Each one has a picture and four answers, and you have 10 seconds to choose. Two examples from the Direct were “Who does this house belong to?” and “Which plant family do Bomb Flowers belong to?”

You can play once a day for free. Extra attempts cost Rupees you have earned in the game. Your best streak of correct answers raises your Egg Level and Cucco Level.

If you want to brush up first, our story recap covers the plot and characters of the original.

How do you set up ZELDA NOTES?

1. Install the Nintendo Switch App from the App Store or Google Play.
2. Sign in with the Nintendo Account you use on your Switch 2.
3. Open ZELDA NOTES and choose Ocarina of Time once the game is out.

We will add the exact steps and screenshots after launch.

Do you still need a guide?

ZELDA NOTES is for records and extras. It does not list Heart Pieces or Gold Skulltulas. For those, use our Heart Piece checklist, our Gold Skulltula checklist and the free collectible tracker. For everything else Nintendo has announced, see Ocarina of Time remake: everything we know.
